Cambodia's manufacturing industry and other key areas contin
Phnom Penh, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The Investment Committee of the Cambodian Development Council reviewed multiple new investment projects on April 21, with a total investment of 490 million US dollars.
The new investment projects under review cover industrial manufacturing, agriculture and renewable energy, infrastructure and other fields, demonstrating Cambodia's continued attraction of foreign investment in these key areas.
According to information released by the Cambodian Development Council, a total of 146 investment projects were approved in the first quarter of 2026, with a total agreed investment of 2.5 billion US dollars, expected to create over 80000 job opportunities. Among them, 1.3 billion US dollars were invested in the industrial manufacturing sector, 840 million US dollars were invested in the infrastructure sector, and the rest flowed into the tourism, agriculture, and agricultural product processing sectors.
In terms of funding sources, China continued to maintain its position as the largest investment source country in Cambodia during the quarter, with Chinese investment accounting for nearly 46.8% of the total amount. Malaysia's investment accounts for 8.1% and Singapore's investment accounts for 4.7%, making them the second and third largest sources of foreign investment in Cambodia, respectively.
Officials from the Asian Development Bank's office in Cambodia previously stated that under global external pressure, the Cambodian economy continues to demonstrate strong resilience. The official pointed out that manufacturing remains a key pillar of Cambodia's national economy; The government's continued investment in revitalizing the tourism industry is expected to inject more positive momentum into Cambodia's economic growth.
In its latest report, the Asian Development Bank predicts that Cambodia's economy will achieve a growth rate of 4.5% in 2026, and the growth rate is expected to further increase to 5.0% in 2027. (End)
