European natural gas benchmark price breaks 90 euros for the

London, October 20 (Xinhua) -- European natural gas prices continued to rise on the 20th, with the Dutch Transfer of Ownership (TTF) natural gas futures price, which serves as the benchmark price for European natural gas, breaking through 90 euros per megawatt hour during trading that day, reaching a new high since December 2022 and a significant increase from about 32 euros before the outbreak of the Middle East conflict.

According to data from the European Gas Infrastructure Association, as of October 19th, the storage capacity of EU natural gas storage facilities accounted for approximately 74.6% of the total capacity, significantly lower than the same period in previous years. As the winter heating season approaches, the pressure to replenish natural gas inventories in Europe is further increasing.

Market analysis suggests that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has led to continued disruptions in liquefied natural gas exports from the Gulf region, coupled with high energy transportation security risks, resulting in a sustained global natural gas supply shortage. As winter approaches, the demand for liquefied natural gas imports in Europe and Asia is increasing, which may further push up natural gas prices.
