An investigation has been launched into the killing of illeg
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Thursday (July 9) that Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot dead by federal immigration enforcement officers in Houston this week, was not the intended target of this "enforcement operation" by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Officials said that the Mexican illegal immigrant drove into an ICE vehicle during the immigration enforcement operation in Texas and attempted to escape.

According to The Guardian, ICE agents were searching for two Guatemalans at the time.
The shooting incident occurred before 7am Central Time on Tuesday, July 7th. ICE stated that the deceased was Mexican citizen Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, an "illegal immigrant" who attempted to evade arrest during "targeted law enforcement operations" by immigration officials.
According to ICE, Salgado Araujo first collided with an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to obey multiple verbal orders from ICE agents, and then used the vehicle as a weapon in an attempt to collide with an ICE law enforcement officer.

A video shot by a passerby driving and posted online by KRIV-TV, affiliated with Houston Fox Television, shows two ICE agents squatting on the street next to the driver's seat of a white van, with a man lying there and two handcuffed men lying on the ground on the other side of the van.
Ronaldo Salgado claimed to be the son of the driver who was shot. He told the local Spanish language television station Telemundo Houston that his father was searching for hired workers in the area before his death.
