The price index of personal consumption expenditure in the U

New York, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Data released by the US Department of Commerce on April 30 showed that the personal consumption expenditure price index in March increased by 3.5% year-on-year, significantly higher than the previous month's 2.8% and the highest level since June 2023.
 
The data also shows that after excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core personal consumption expenditure price index in March increased by 3.2% year-on-year, higher than the previous month's 3%.
 
The Personal Consumption Expenditure Price Index is an inflation indicator closely monitored by the Federal Reserve in the United States. It is a key reference data for formulating monetary policy and one of the main reference indicators for achieving the Fed's inflation target.
